This Latest News Will Derail McCain/Palin....

Palin was once apart of the Alaska Independence Party or AIP. AIP primary goal was to break away from the US and be independent from the United States..

What may prove to be the single most damaging angle to Sarah Palin's role on the Republican Party ticket? There are quite a few contenders (ethics scandal, earmarks, inexperience, outside-the-mainstream views), but following up on Hilzoy's item from last night, Palin's association with the Alaska Independence Party might be the most politically detrimental.

It's practically impossible to make a "Country First" argument when your running mate is affiliated with a political party that puts country second.

Officials of the Alaskan Independence Party say that Palin was once so independent, she was once a member of their party, which since the 1970s has been pushing for a legal vote for Alaskans to decide whether or not residents of the 49th state can secede from the United States.And while McCain's motto -- as seen in a new TV ad -- is "Country First," the AIP's motto is the exact opposite -- "Alaska First -- Alaska Always."

Lynette Clark, the chairman of the AIP, tells ABC News that Palin and her husband Todd were members in 1994, even attending the 1994 statewide convention in Wasilla. Clark was AIP secretary at the time.

"We are a state's rights party," Clark -- a self-employed goldminer -- tells ABC News. The AIP has "a plank that challenges the legality of the Alaskan statehood vote as illegal and in violation of United Nations charter and international law."

For all the talk about Barack and Michelle Obama's patriotism, John McCain's running mate was a member of a political party that liked the idea of seceding from the United States altogether. It's the kind of idea that would have been more common in the 1850s.

Advocating secession is, practically by definition, un-American. How does the right go after Obama's patriotism while supporting a ticket with a candidate who joined a secessionist party?

We are, after all, talking about a party founded by a man who said, "I'm an Alaskan, not an American. I've got no use for America or her damned institutions." The same man, AIP founder Joe Vogler, also said, "[T]he fires of Hell are glaciers compared to my hate for the American government."

How is this any better than Jeremiah Wright? Why would Sarah Palin voluntarily join this man's political party?

Complicating matters, Marc Ambinder has a video of a AIP leader explaining that party members "must 'infiltrate' -- his words -- the other two parties and push for the cause of Alaskan independence."

I suspect McCain and his aides didn't know about any of this. Indeed, they couldn't have -- they didn't vet her. But now that this revelation has come to light, what's the defense?

Once more news outlets get a hold of this it won't be pretty. The wheels are starting to fall off...Can you imagine if this was Barack?

 

Betcha they're not gonna question "her" patriotism. If this were Obama, they would raise holy hell.

It wouldn't surprise me one bit if they dig up even more dirt on this lady to the point to where she gets overwhelmed and drops out of the VP slot altogether.

 

Unless they've got tape of her advocating Alaskan independence, I doubt this will make much of a dent.

Certainly you can go into anyone's political past and find something to try and spin. They've tried many angles already with Obama associates and hopefully most people see past that.

I'm sure most reasonable people see Obama and McCain as good, patriotic Americans who love there country... but both from very different viewpoints and with different agendas to make the country better.

In my opinion, Obama is the right direction to go. And from what I've seen, he'll have the class not to call into question Palin's love of country over a 1994 daliance with this AIP group. He will do the right thing and hammer away at the difference in policies so voters can make an educated choice come election time.

 

Affiliation is advocating yes? McCain's mantra is country first yet he chose a VP who at one time believed separate first and ya'll do want ya'll want. This should be an issue in the campaign her personal life and her family should be off limits. This will dog their run as well as any other skeletons that come flying out of her closet...

 

Agreed. The family thing should be off-limits. This, however, is fair game.

It'll be interesting to see how this gets spun in the public eye. I hope McCain is prepared for all of this.

 

Actually, not to get technical or anything, but I believe it was her husband who was an official member of the AIP. So does that still make it fair game? I think I read somewhere that he's part Inuit, which actually, I think would warrant being a part of the AIP, but the pictures I've seen of him look about as Inuit as I do.

I went to the market today, and the national inquirer (like anyone takes that garbage seriously) had Obama on the cover, with a caption that referenced him as being a militant "brotha" who was anti-white.

if he really was a Muslim, he wouldn't have a flying chance in hell at becoming president.

 

This is going to get interesting because folks are starting to dig deep into this shit. Denials and wrongly accused is being spun from the McCain/Palin side but................................

Well, you see, she's a lovely mother of five and a popular governor so she's entitled to her opinions. Obviously, she's not a scary black Muslim radical who secretly wishes this country evil so she can think what she wants ......

 

The McCain/Pallin campaign would deny it and say it was caused by "left-wing" bloggers. I read that McCain is like George W. Bush in the Navy before he was shot down in Nam.

One of the main goals of AIP is to infiltrate both major parties to do their bidding from the inside out.
