Sveva Alviti and Newton Mayenge Board Cannes-Set Romance ‘The Other Side of Fame’

Italy’s Sveva Alviti (“Dalida”) and U.S. actor Newton Mayenge (“Winning Time: The Rise of the Lakers Dynasty”) are attached to star in Cannes-set romantic drama “The Other Side of Fame” to be directed by Erik Bernard (“Free Dead or Alive”).

Alviti is a model and actor who played the iconic Egyptian-Italian singer in the 2017 “Dalida” biopic by French director Lisa Azuelos. In “The Other Side of Fame,” she will play a young woman who becomes romantically entangled in Cannes with an elusive American played by Mayenge, “compelling her to confront the profound choice between the allure of fame and the promise of true love,” according to the project’s synopsis.

Bernard, who besides planning to direct also wrote the script for “The Other Side of Fame,” said in a statement that the story stems from attending the Cannes Film Festival in 2022 and that the South of France “will be a character in the film.” The plan is to shoot in Cannes and the surrounding area this winter.

“The Other Side of Fame” is being produced by Bernard, Denise Bernard, and Jasmin Espada under the Rebel 6 Film banner along with Untold Content’s Joel M. Gonzales and Pejman Partiyeli.

I like this for both of them. Good story too. Also they are BOTH executive producers on this movie. I wonder how they met and how this
came up for them to both agree to produce and star in it.

Dove Cameron, star of CW's upcoming live-action Powerpuff series, and Hamilton's Jordan Fisher, will star in the Warner Bros/HBO Max movie Field Notes on Love, based on the Jennifer E. Smith 2019 YA romance novel.
In Field Notes on Love, Hugo is dumped by his girlfriend before their long-planned romantic train trip across America. She leaves him with the tickets, which are nontransferable, booked under her name. Meanwhile, Mae is reeling from being rejected from USC's film school. When she stumbles across Hugo's ad for a replacement, she's certain it's exactly the adventure she needs to shake off her disappointment and jump-start her next film. A cross-country train trip with a complete stranger might not seem like the best idea, but to Mae and Hugo, both eager to escape their regular lives, it makes perfect sense. What starts as a convenient arrangement soon turns into something more. However, life outside the train catches up with the duo, and they must contend with not derailing their feelings for each other.

Miles & Juliette

Miles & Juliette, the new feature from Oscar-nominated filmmaker Bill Pohlad and his River Road Entertainment, has started production in Paris. The film stars Damson Idris as Miles Davis and Anamaria Vartolomei as Juliette Gréco.

Written by Pulitzer Prize finalist Zora Howard, Miles & Juliette tells the story of a 22-year-old Miles Davis on a transformative trip to Paris in 1949, where he meets and falls in love with Juliette Gréco, the French singer and actress then emerging as the face of the postwar Left Bank.

Set amid the creative ferment of Paris at a turning point in music and culture, the film traces the bond between two young artists in the years before the world knew their names. For Davis, the trip marked his first journey outside the U.S. and placed him among a remarkable circle of musicians, artists and intellectuals at a formative moment in his life and career.

“I’ve been captivated by the idea of telling this story — a fleeting encounter between two extraordinary young artists that becomes something neither of them could have imagined,” said Pohlad. “There’s something deeply cinematic about that kind of love: the music, the city, the artists, and the moment in time. Watching Miles & Juliette come to life with this remarkable cast and crew is a dream come true.”
