What Are Your Political Leanings?

Reading views from all over the spectrum, I became motivated to start this thread. The state of politics as it is today manipulates racial issues on a constant basis and in America, both the Democrats and Republicans are to blame. I'm just curious to know: What is your political affiliation or political views?

I realize that many members of wwbm.com are living in other countries besides the USA, but I don't know much at all about the political parties of other countries. So forgive me if I haven't listed enough choices.

I'm a democrat but I'm not really for democrats. I think the neo cons have better points in many subjects.
Communism is a better system than democracy, idealistically

I know on political scale assessments I have done I am quite far to the left Not sure if I'd confidently say Libertarian, but definately left.

Sadly what you talk about in the states happens today in Australia with our government.

I believe our current government (may have gone unnoticed in the states, but our PM is closer with Bush than an Australian PM has been with any other US president) won their last term by exploiting xenophobia and racist attitudes.

This is because they elicited alot of publicity right before the electrion by beating up a story where refguees trying to sneak into Oz had thrown their children overboard to die, for some inexplicable reason, in their struggle. Turns out the boat was sinking and they were trying to find enough life jackets and save their lives :roll:

And now, recently, the very same government in the wake of race-related violence has the impunity to stand up and say there is no racism problem whatsoever in Australia. Yes, we are extremely diverse and multicultural but it is there.

It is part of the manufacturing of a culture of fear that serves to retain power with governments the world over.

I know Australia is wonderful in alot of ways- unlike the way my mother grew up, and the way people exist the world over where they live in fear every day of being murdered by their own government.

Even so, the policies of our current government, so in line with 'the superpower' are so bad right now! I agree about the manipulation of racial issues, I see it in our media here every day.

Do you think New Orleans was a wake up call and embarressment enough to sustain any long term change Mosiah? Or is it just 'water under the bridge', 'scuse the pun!

 

I can't vote on this thread as it doesn't really apply to the UK. Some of my friends call me "Tory Tash" as I have a few old fashioned, right wing political leanings. That may be so but I don't particularly like any party as I think they're all out for themselves and most of them will put a bit of spin on anything to win votes.

 

I have a friend who calls me Red Ken, and I call her Mini Maggie - it's all in good jest! :lol:

I notice you didn't put Fascist in there LOL. Actually I am a Mannist. Men rule. Women belong at home next to the stove wearing nothing but a thong and high heels. They cook, clean, raise the babies and give the husband pleasure when he wants it. We should also be able to spank them in the workplace...

I'm a libertarian-socialist, I beleive in society and freedom, responsability and the democratic spirit.

By the way, Iceland is the only true democracy. what most 'democracies' actually are amounts to a kind of elected oligrachy, for example America pretty much votes in a new king every four to eight years. True democracy is probably unworkable, simply too much work to expect your average busy citizen to have to deal with, we'd all have to be senators, the average American would have to actually read what's in Patriot Act II or whatever, and all the other bits of paper that wash around inside the senate, and vote on it. True democracy is largely unworkable, would require a vastly more educated populace, capitalism would no longer function due to poor people having too much say.

 

I'm more or less a moderate with Democrat leanings....I like the Republicans on some moral issues and education.

NO system is perfect because people are not perfect. Any type of government set up be it a republic, pure democracy, oligarchy, monarchy, or communist state...is going to be lead by PEOPLE and people have bad judgement. All types of leadership would be nearly perfect in theory but you need a system that can best withstand the poor decision making and incompetence of its leaders. Kind of like training wheels or a helmet...something that protects a nation and its citizens from itself.

 

Do you mean direct democracy? As in Ancient Greece?

You're right, though, but I don't think most people would want it any differently.
