"It is not the impermanence that make us suffer. What makes us suffer is wanting things to be permanent when they are not." Thich Nhat Hanh It seems we humans are always striving to find "happiness", outside of ourselves. Humans believe they will find "happiness" in religion, hobbies, sports, career(s), education, and relationships. While the aforementioned can provide some sense of well being, humans will never find an everlasting "happiness", because humans will constantly desire more. "And every human that striveth for mastery is temperate in all things." Saul/Apostle Paul/St. Paul (1 Corinthians 9:25) At no other time in history did humans have accomplishments, promotions, wealth, accumulation, accolades, awards, and achievements, as humans have in the modern era. At no other time in history have humans suffered so much depression. Our modern society dictates we should have more; do more, and be more. When will our modern society have enough? Jesus, Buddha, Mohammed, Lao Tzu, Socrates, and many others have warned humans about continually searching externally for more of something, in order to find "happiness"; yet, modern day humans arrogantly believe they know better than ancient wisdom. "My opinion is you will find happiness, until you stop looking for it" Zhuangzi When humans are content, regardless of living conditions; financial status; relationship status, health status, and vocation status, while realizing nothing (spouse, vocation, wealth, and accomplishments) on this earth can be taken to the grave, families, relationships, faith, and vocations have more meaning and purpose. Life is viewed as a privilege; not a selfish right to have "happiness", when humans are content. Being content accepts the present situation as it, while being open to possibilities and not focusing on regrets and past mistakes. Being contents states "I have what I have. I have enough, and I have peace of mind with enough, no matter what is transpiring in this life"
