And no surprise a white conservative male wrote this article, and just parrots the same inbred conservative rhetoric. And of course Jesse Jackson & Al Sharpton got thrown into the mix being that they are the great black devils that all black folks mindlessly follow & listen to some how. That shit is like saying all white people mindlessly follow & listen to Glen Beck & Rush Limbaugh. Maybe if they stopped trying to always using Sharpton & Jackson as the faces/scapegoats for why black people don't listen to conservatives and check & own their own limited agenda/viewpoint and what it has to offer they might get some black people to listen.
I found that part hilarious as well. It just shows how out of touch the GOP is with Blacks in America when they think that either of those men are considered to be influential. The comments on that article are pretty damn funny too, because the majority of them reinforce the same stereotypes of Black people that have been going around for decades. Speaking for myself, I'm not all that religious, I'm pro-choice, pro-gay marriage, anti-capital punishment and I think that this country's biggest disaster has been the War on Drugs. And no, I'm not on welfare, I don't have three or four kids out of wedlock and I've never been behind bars. There are a lot of Black voters (especially younger ones who are in college and upwardly mobile) who feel the same way I do. Where would I fit in with a party that stands against literally everything that I believe in? What about the next generation? The GOP automatically assumes that race is the main issue but as a college-educated Black male, much of what the GOP says and does is abhorrent to me. Does this mean that Democrats are perfect? Hell no, not by a longshot. But they at least live in 2013 instead of 1963. And even more to the point, the previous election cycle saw every single Republican candidate compare himself (or herself) to Ronald Reagan...who left office in 1989. Today's college freshmen were born in 1995! What relevance does Ronald Reagan have to their everyday life? The GOP has to stop pretending like nothing has changed in the past 30 years. If the GOP wants to get minority and younger voters, they need to stop living in the past and fighting culture wars...stop doing stupid shit like trying to make Christianity a state religion (North Carolina) and stop letting the Tea Party chase off moderate voters with their violent, over the top rhetoric that more often than not calls for the overthrow of government if they don't get their way every single time (most recently in New Hampshire). Stop asking for the President's birth certificate and stop accusing him of being a "secret Muslim." Bobby Jindal said it best a few months ago: Republicans have got to stop being the stupid party.
Exactly. Want to know the thing about the whole Sharpton/Jackson deal that really pisses me and turns me off from conservatives? When black conservatives bring that shit up. That's like a double slap in the face towards black people IMO when they do that shit.
Really, the only ones who refer to either of them as being "Black leaders" are conservatives. The extreme majority of Black people pay no attention to anything either of them say. I know I sure as hell don't.
as time goes on, more and more blacks are becoming more educated and less reliant on someone telling them what to do. the internet has also helped tremendously with giving more blacks a voice, so you really don't need to rely on al/jesse to make certain issues more known or whatever. I give them credit though for their past efforts, when the internet wasn't around and blacks weren't as aware of what other blacks were going through. You'd routinely see either one on the news rallying against suspected wrongs. other than black civil rights, i really dont know what their stance is on anything else and really don't care.
Oh, and another reason why Black people don't vote for Republicans: Georgia Gov. Nathan Deal Won't Respond To Group's Call To End Segregated Prom Georgia Gov. Nathan Deal won't be endorsing one high school's effort to have its first integrated prom -- at least for the time being, his spokesman said. In an email to WMAZ-TV, Deal's representative Brian Robinson said the governor would not respond to a progressive nonprofit group's calls to support students' efforts to organize the first integrated prom at Wilcox County High School. "This is a leftist front group for the state Democratic Party and we're not going to lend a hand to their silly publicity stunt," Robinson wrote, according to WMAZ-TV. http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2013/...ated_n_3072288.html?ncid=txtlnkushpmg00000038 And there you have it....integrated proms are nothing more than a "silly publicity stunt." And this is from the office of the governor.
I personally think both Sharpton & Jackson are spotlight hogs, but I do give Sharpton some credit for putting the spotlight on certain shit that otherwise wouldn't get any notice, especially for those black folks who may not have internet or other social media outlets to stay up on shit, like the very poor or very elderly in the black community.
nope...i prefer to maintain the images of both figures circa 1980s...you know.. back when the philly police used an airdropped BOMB on a section of row-homes, to dislodge members of the MOVE organization (killing little kids in the process) i hang on to the good they've done for us http://civilliberty.about.com/od/profiles/p/al_sharpton.htm
I watched Rand Paul speech a few days ago, I thought it would be good to share and see what you think of his speech.
