Random Political comments...

Legal immigration into the United States isn't stopping anytime soon, and that includes from Central and South America.
People need to be careful making this an 'us' versus 'them' argument.

Conservatives want to pit Blacks against Latinos and every other ethnic group. If the resentment and hostility becomes great enough, minority groups that feel they're in competition with Blacks might choose to identify politically with a political party opposite the one most Black vote for, i.e., the GOP.

Immigration still works and we aren't taking in more people faster than our economy is growing.
The discussion is illegal immigration.
Legal immigration is determined by needs and on a case by case basis. Of course LEGAL immigration works, however for you to say we aren't taking in more than our economy is growing, is laughable.

Ideologically I don't think there's a person who doesn't agree with you that we should treat all people as human beings - period - however we are speaking practicality here. You say that you would give from your children's plate but what happens when your child's plate is empty and they want more? What you've done now is created a dependency as opposed to self-sufficiency. Believe it or not, a huge amount come for our Welfare. Those that come for jobs don't give a crap that they might be taking an American's job, otherwise they would stay home.

You also can not ignore those that come to harm this country or refuse to assimilate. One of the first obligations of your Government is to protect its citizens from foreign Invaders and foreign entities. They have no obligation to anybody else. You have no idea who is coming into your country - so what is wrong with the methods already in place for a reason?..such as vetting, providing identification papers, identifying why are you are applying to live here, if you harbor any communicable diseases, etc..
Why are you against the laws designed to protect your homeland?
As Flaming always says, this is the only Country you've got.
I was with you till the last paragraph. Do you have any sources supporting any of that or is it normal xenophobic propaganda.
It's statements like that that keep us from uniting on the topic.

Also I think Raiders position will change once it's her industry or job being under cut by these practices. And again I get it's more the companies than the people coming here illegally but you can't just give away your well being just because someone else had theirs taken away. They get more than actual tax paying citizens get. There are people who have exhausted welfare benefits simply because we don't have enough to go around. What happens to those people?

I don't have an issue with certain policies being in place to protect our citizens from genuine danger. I have a huge issue with banning an entire group due to bias-based "fear".

And I absolutely agree that I enable lol. It's something I'm working on, albeit unsuccessfully thus far. I look at people and the first thing I think it's "what if that was my family in that war torn country", "what if that was my child, literally starving to death"...all while I see nothing but greed and incredible waste in this wonderful country of ours. I just think we could do better.

There's plenty of our own citizens taking advantage of the system it's certainly not just an immigrant thing. And when 10 jobs are up for grabs, why do you assume 5 are automatically off the table for American citizens?? 10 jobs are up for grabs to the best candidates. Maybe all 10 would be filled by Americans, maybe none, depends on who fits the position best.

A large portion of my patient population is undocumented immigrants. People who've lived here for years and years, abiding by our laws, working whatever crap job they can get just trying to build a safer life for their children. They don't have vehicles, they live on pennies, they aren't taking our wealth or any american careers...they're struggling and starving and SCARED. I have patients who are sick and cant leave their home to get to me because of all the raids happening right now. Two grocery stores by my work just got raided. We've had executive meetings about where police have access to within clinic and where they don't. The ramifications of Trumps America are burned into my brain every day.

I have a few medical assistants, from mexico, here with work permits. I had 2 entry level positions open and you
know why I hired them? They were the best applicants for the position. They interviewed better, they showed greater compassion, I got a sense of actual work ethic from them which is SO missing from american-born youth these days. The positions were $19/hr regardless of who got hired so I certainly didn't hire them because they'd somehow save me money. If Americans are concerned about why they're losing opportunities for employment, we should really look in the mirror instead of so easily pointing the finger.

Just saying, we bring in 100,000 legal immigrants a month into this country, much higher than the rate of illegal immigration at any single point, EVER.
So how is it we can absorb 100,000 legal immigrants a month, but can't handle 1000-5000 illegals/month without collapsing our economy??
That's the propaganda IMO.

The better question is why Don't those 5000 people came here LEGALLY, like the other 95 percent?

Ok talk to people working construction and see how they feel. Skilled carpenters who can't compete with a guy willing to work for pennies on the dollar. Where's the compassion for those guys who can't feed their families?
And if you're scared because a law you broke is finally being enforced who is that really on? My family had to apply and wait, you think conditions in Kingston are any better than Mexico city? No but they had to wait their turn. Does fairness not exist anymore? And let me tell you its good for you now but as their population rises the demand for bilingual nurses is gonna rise hope you're learning their language to serve people who came here illegally

Yeah true story. It's amazing how much compassion I see for illegal immigrants who break the law by coming here illegally. I always wonder if these were afro Latinos escaping from Colombia or people escaping the Congo in the same numbers would we be as compassionate

Fairness always has a place but change happens and it doesn't need to always just be how things were.

Ftr, the demand in SD for bilingual nurses had been strong forever. Nothing new. I speak Spanish every day... Couldn't get through my day without it with my patient population. Gotta change with the times and stay relevant my friend.

Trump voters would be among the biggest losers in Republicans' Obamacare replacement plan

ericans who swept President Trump to victory — lower-income, older voters in conservative, rural parts of the country — stand to lose the most in federal healthcare aid under a Republican plan to repeal and replace the Affordable Care Act, according to a Times analysis of county voting and tax credit data.

Among those hit the hardest under the current House bill are 60-year-olds with annual incomes of $30,000. In nearly 1,500 counties nationwide, such a person stands to lose more than $6,000 a year in federal insurance subsidies. Ninety percent of those counties backed Trump, the analysis shows.

And 68 of the 70 counties where these consumers would suffer the largest losses supported Trump in November.

Most affected by the Republican health plan would be parts of Alaska, Arizona, Nebraska, Tennessee and Oklahoma, where Obamacare insurance subsidies have been crucial in making high-priced insurance affordable. All five states went for Trump. Also hit hard would be parts of key swing states that backed Trump, including Pennsylvania, North Carolina and Michigan.

Could you bold.or quote the part you disagreed with and want sources? I'm not being obtuse, I'm genuinely confused which part you are referring too @ "last paragraph"..
Are you referring to my existing laws comment or what Flaming said?

Laws protecting our homeland because it seems like they only enforce those immigration laws when its convenient and I don't buy the whole terrorist coming across the border idea either. Has anyone who has attacked us been a border jumper? Sounds like fear mongering

There's changing with the times and there's being actively sabatoged. Big difference my friend.

I think @Bliss might be referring to the Cartels & Gangs.

As much as Conservatives/racists have made black folks the face of crime in Chicago going back to the 1950's, did you know a lot of the crime & violence in Chicago are actually caused by Cartels/Latino Gangs?

Applying their logic. I'm gonna sneak into MIT and sit in classes until I get caught and kicked out. Then I'm going to complain about getting removed from campus even though I never applied. I'm looking forward to all the support.

Maybe it's just a difference of opinion. I don't think we're being "actively sabotaged" at all. I think that's the way certain groups want you to feel, but that's for their own selfish gain. To stay in demand as employees I think we always need to continue our education and improve/increase our skill set. Having immigrants in the running for the same jobs as me doesn't change anything, I'll always fight to be the best candidate. It doesn't matter where the immigrants are coming from (in response to your Columbian immigrant comment), I welcome them and will help any way I can. We don't have to close our borders from people that need help, to ensure the safety of our citizens. Jmo.

Why is it on us and only us to help them. Giving aide sure why not but....
Look at it this way we're all on a line trying to get somewhere then a ton of people who haven't been waiting as long as you or paid the entrance fee that you paid cut the line. You have no way of knowing if them cutting the line keeps you from getting what you need all you know the chances have greatly diminished.
How is that fair to those who have been waiting patiently paid the money and followed all the rules?
The one thing I find gross about the left is they keep presenting this as fight against immigration and it's not. If you want to come here then by all means do what my family did. Pay your application money for a visa. Work pay an immigration lawyer and apply for citizenship. Work in a field that's needed like nursing and engineering like my mom and dad then wait your damn turn. Do we drop all standards and let everyone who wants to come no matter what it does to the system?
Again how is it fair to those who followed the rules. Were they just stupid chumps for obeying the law?

The problem with that thinking is we begin to see all of them as gang members when they are a very small percentage.

I think what should happen is if you are here illegally you should be allowed temporary asylum so you can prove yourself a productive member of society if not you go back to your country of origin.

I wasn't talking about Border jumpers, I was talking about those that fly here, and overstay their visas, or fly into Canada and Mexico and cross their bborders to get in here.
Of course too, there are plenty of drug-dealers and gang members who cross from Mexico by way of Mexico or Central America through Mexico to get here. Or as we have seen, cross under through elaborate tunnels.

I think you might be confusing illegal aliens to Asylum seekers.
Asylum seekers are not from either side of our borders due to a treaty in particular with Canada (similiarly to an agreement that exists across the world, which is the first safe country you land in, they must accept you if you can prove you are vulnerable.)

Normally, asylum seekers apply from the start and are granted entry after proper vetting. If they are ominous in intent, then they are deported back.

*Fyi, that agreement between Canada and the US is called the 'Safe Third Country Agreement' (ratified in 2004).
