A tormented child reaches adulthood with a damaged soul and a seething rage. This book grabs you by the throat and never let’s go until the last page.
My name is Tony. When I was seven years old the bullies in my class almost killed me; my father was angry that I let it happen, but he always hated me.
At thirteen I went to prison for a crime I didn't commit; it was the worst experience of my life.
Living on the streets was hard; being part of a gang was even harder.
Oh, and I did find people to love along the way...and, I would do anything to protect them, anything.
The story itself wasn't bad, but a couple of things made it overall meh for me. The editing sucked, and the multitude of mistakes were distracting. Also, the author's over the top use of the stereotypical Guido mobster dialect was annoying as hell.
The 9th standalone novel in the Claus Universe.
One Christmas morning, a mystery gift appeared under trees around the world. It was the exact same gift, inscribed with the maker’s initials in tiny letters: BT and Company. It was months before anyone knew exactly what the gift did.
Avery Tannenbaum’s brother was one of the lucky few to receive one. It was on her birthday when the mysterious gifts came to life. A contest was announced. It was also on that very same day Avery’s grandmother passed away.
An eccentric, wealthy woman, Nana Rai left detailed instructions on how to commemorate her passing, a celebration to be held on Christmas morning, which just so happened to be the same day the contest was set to end. Avery’s family travels to a cold and snowy land to honor her grandmother’s wishes. And it’s here she uncovers the true purpose of the mystery gift, and why the makers launched a global contest.
As Nana Rai’s celebration nears, Avery follows clues her grandmother left behind. BT and Company are searching for the Toymaker. And Avery knows what they’ll do when they find him. She becomes part of her grandmother’s plan to stop them. The real mystery isn’t where the Toymaker is hiding.
It’s why he’s hiding in the first place.
Another good one by Tony Bertauski. I've yet to read anything of his I haven't enjoyed.
Horror came to North Carolina on Halloween night in 1986. A teenage boy murdered his entire family with an axe. Detective Sam Strode must determine if the boy is pure evil or if the supernatural is at play.
The only problem is Sam doesn't believe in the supernatural.
He may after one night on Halloween.
The Project Specter Side Stories are independent stories based in the Project Specter Universe. Each tale will give backstory or “side” stories to the ongoing series.
The ending was weak (as though the story wasn't finished), but I do like the author.
